Please contact Prof. Christine Selhuber-Unkel  for more details.

PhD position opportunity at the IMSE

The position focuses on research at the interface of molecular systems engineering and biophysics in the project “Dynamics and forces during first stages of Entamoeba tissue invasion”. In particular, it is planned to investigate intracellular motion within parasites (Entamoeba) in response to contact with target cells in structured environments. The project is part of the Priority Program “Physics of Parasitism” (SPP 2332) and we strongly collaborate with theorists to analyze and interpret our data. We offer a creative and inspiring environment for experimental approaches and interesting research in the field of molecular systems engineering. Moreover, we highly encourage and provide opportunities for new ideas and projects.

Tasks:

  • Design, planning and realization of experiments (microstructuring, cell experiments, light microscopy)
  • Image analysis
  • Data analysis (large data volumes)
  • Presentations on conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • General tasks in research and teaching in molecular systems engineering
  • Planning and execution of collaborations with research partners.

Your qualifications:

  • Masters degree (or equivalent), ideally in (bio)physics, but we are also open for applications from related disciplines
  • Programming skills (ideally Matlab)
  • Willingness to work with human pathogenic organisms (biosafety level 2)
  • Interest and experience in working in an interdisciplinary research field
  • Creativity and ideas for new and unconventional solutions
  • Very good English language skills, very good communication skills
  • Strong (self-)motivation, commitment, ability to work independently as well as in a team

Please send your application documents (CV, motivation letter, certificates) to Christine Selhuber-Unkel  by  March 31, 2022.
